An International Community.

The ‘Men’s Shed’ movement first came to be back in the 1990s on the other side of the world in Australia. Since then, the idea has spread internationally, ultimately finding its way to us here in Chichester.

Men’s Sheds are places for men and women of all ages and from all walks of life. They exist to provide ‘Shedders’ with a community space in which they can come together, create and socialise.

Men typically find it much harder to form social connections than women and so sheds were created to combat isolation and loneliness, bringing people together in a safe and engaging environment.

More than just a shed.

We get together every Monday morning as a group and share ideas, experiences and a lot of tea. On Thursdays, The Shed is open and accessible to members on a ‘roll up’ basis allowing Shedders extra time to continue working on projects. With each of us bringing our own knowledge and skills to our shed, we work on all kinds of different projects: some personal and some with a view to benefit the shed and the wider community.

The backbone of all sheds worldwide is a sense of brotherhood and companionship and we have great plans for Chichester Men’s Shed, looking to expand into bigger premises, with a full programme of projects and activities for all.
